George Papadopoulos Promises New Insights Into Campaign Spying

George Papadopoulos testified before Congress last week in an attempt to clear his name and to hopefully shed more light the worse scandal in political history, the US government spying on a presidential campaign and attempting to sabotage it for the benefit of the Democrat Party.

Here is a recap of the events that led to Mr. Papadopoulos being investigated by the Russian probe. In March 2016, shortly after Papadopoulos was named as a foreign policy advisor to the Trump campaign, Mifsud met Papadopoulos in Rome. They later met again in London. Allegedly Mifsud introduced Papadopoulos a Russian woman in London, but Papadopoulos denies that this occurred. Mifsud told Papadopoulos that he had learned the Russians were in possession of thousands of emails that were damaging to Hillary Clinton.

On a later visit to London Papadopoulos was given an opportunity to meet with a major political figure in the UK, the Australian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alexander Downer. To give this some context here the job is very similar in function to what The Secretary of State does in the United States. Downer has been characterized as a mere diplomat, however he is much more than that. He is responsible for creating foreign policy for Australia. In other words all of Australia's diplomats work for him. So for Papadopoulos to get an opportunity to speak with Downer as a mere campaign aid must have seemed like a dream come true. The words "to good to be true" comes to mind.

During this meeting allegedly Papadopoulos repeated the information given to him by Mifsud. Downer then reported to American authorities that Papadopoulos had apparently known about Russia's theft of emails from Democratic sources before it was publicly reported. Papopoulos has since publicly denied any recollection of this topic with Downer. The FBI then launched an investigation into the Trump campaign.

Mifsud was allegedly interviewed by the FBI in February 2017 while visiting the United States to speak at a conference, but he FBI has not confirmed this. He is listed as a featured speaker at the February 2017 national meeting of Global Ties, an event sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. Mifsud left the United States on February 11, 2017. Prosecutors investigating Russian interference in the election suggested, in an August 17, 2018 sentencing memorandum for Papadopoulos, that they might have wanted to challenge, detain, or arrest Mifsud if Papadopoulos had told the truth about their interactions.
