Kentuckians Brave the Rain to Stand Up For Their 2nd Amendment Rights

Updated: Apr 15, 2018

The rain fell at a steady drizzle today for today's national 2nd amendment rally held at Kentucky's State Capitol. The crowd was small but passionate as they allowed an open microphone to be used by anyone from the crowd that chose to stand up and speak their mind. I estimate that about 100 people were there for the rally. Some showed up wearing ponchos and rain gear. Others just toughed it out in their street clothes. Many were openly carrying side arms and long rifles slung over shoulders, all in support of our rights as citizens outlined in the 2nd amendment.

Candidate for Secretary of State Carl Nett showed up and gave a very stirring speech in support of our rights. You can watch his announcement here where he is running for office.

Also Alyssa Dara McDowell candidate for state representative showed up and spoke as well. One of the things that candidate McDowell said that I thought was really good was that if we really want to make a difference then some of us should run for public office. She said that more conservatives need to run for office. which is a good point I think.

One of the things that I did while I was there was ask people what the second amendment means to them. I got a lot of really good answers from various people. People would say that they believe in the right to defend themselves, their families, and their property. One man talked about being a citizen soldier. He said that he felt that all American citizens are citizen soldiers tasked with the responsibility of defending our nations freedom against enemies foreign and domestic. He gestured to the rifle slung across his back and said that guns are freedom's teeth. Another said that We don't own guns to impose our will on others. We own guns to keep others from forcing their will on us. I found many families their with their children, and asked some of the kids what they thought about the second amendment. One young man that looked to be about 12 told me that without guns we wouldn't be able to keep our freedoms for very long. I told him that his daddy is raising him right and he agreed.

early stages of the rally as people were just arriving.

The general consensus was this. Conservatives need to get better at organizing these kinds of events because we are losing ground in the public forum. We do not have well funded, well organized professional organizers guiding our events the way that the left does. Frankly we need to get better at this, because we are going to lose if we don't start making our voices heard. One speaker said that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Right now the left is squeaking louder than anyone. The law abiding citizens of this country are the majority, as Mark Robinson pointed out in his NC town hall meeting speech recently. It doesn't matter what color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. that you are. There are two things that should unite us in purpose. One is that we are Americans and the other is that we are law abiding. These two truths should unite us, and becoming united is exactly what we need to do more than anything in the face of division politics which attempt to pit us against one another over every petty difference. They call us the silent majority. No more. We need to make our voices heard. We need to rise up in one united shout that will drown out the chaos of the left.
