Judicial Watch filed a federal lawsuit against the FBI regarding keeping text messages as federal records. The lawsuit was started because of an audit of communications of former FBI director Andrew McCabe who was using an official federally owned phone provided by the FBI for his communications. The FBI claims that text messages are not subject to the Freedom Of Information Act even when made on an official phone.
“This lawsuit exposes a massive FBI cover-up of its text messages, which are government records and are, by the thousands, likely to have been deleted and lost by FBI employees, and of course, this cover-up conveniently impacts the production of text messages to Judicial Watch and Congress of disgraced FBI officials Andrew McCabe, Peter Strzok, Lisa Page and James Comey.” Said Tom Fitton President of Judicial Watch in his statement.
