History does not paint either Nazis or Communists in a very flattering way. Both ideologies are responsible for genocide on a massive scale, multiple human rights violations, and violence. The mainstream media try to pretend that supporting one means that a person must be sympathizing with the other as if there are only two choices to be made here. Both Nazis and Communists are vile in my opinion and I oppose both. I oppose tyranny in all of its forms and both of these ideologies lead to tyranny.
The other thing that the mainstream media and Antifa are trying to do is define everyone that is a conservative as a Nazi even if what they believe is the polar opposite of what Nazis believe.
The result of all of this attention on Nazis is that Antifa and the mainstream media have succeeded in resurrecting a movement that was all but dead in the United States.
In 2014 there were only an estimated 200 people in the country that openly claimed to be nazis. The movement has never been popular in this country. Back in 1967 Playboy did an interview with the leader of the American Nazi party, a man named Rockwell, and he claimed to have about 500 followers. Shortly after that someone attempted to assassinate Rockwell. He survived the first attempt on his life, but then a few months later a second assassin killed him while he was driving down the street. The movement was taken over by a man named Koehl who moved the organization to a new city. He struggled for decades with the unpopular groups declining membership and image problem. In the 1983 the American Nazi Party changed their name to The New Order which it still calls itself today. It should be noted that some other small groups have popped up calling themselves The American Nazi Party or other associated names but most have been short lived. The neo-nazi gang Aryan Brotherhood at its height only had about 200 members.
Now we have a mainstream media and Antifa that want to label everyone as a Nazi sympathizer or they just outright call you a Nazi. The outcome of this is three fold. One it is desensitizing the public to the evils of being a Nazi. Second it is making Nazis more numerous than they actually are, and finally it is making Nazis look good. Let me explain why. Some conservative group starts peacefully marching down the street. It doesn't matter if these people are or not actually nazis they will be called nazis regardless. So these people peacefully walk down the street holding signs with Bible verses, white lives matter or Blue lives matter on them. They are respectful, they are kind, and they are smiling holding up their signs. Then Antifa starts a riot. They attack police, they throw rocks, and they start fires.
The main stream media of course do not report that Antifa is responsible for all of this violence. They blame it on the conservatives, but there are witnesses. There are people that were there. They took video. They took pictures and they post all of this on social media. Now the mainstream media look like the liars that they are, Antifa look like the violent thugs that they are, and the peaceful protestors are stuck with the label of Nazi. No one bothers to argue whether the group really were nazis. Everyone just accepts that premise. So now it looks like nazis are peaceful and reasonable, the media are liars, and Antifa are criminals.
The result of this could end up being the CPR that revives the Nazi Party. I would not be a bit surprised if they are seeing a spike in their recruitment efforts. Before all of this nonsense, no one gave these idiots a second thought. They were well on their way to fading into obscurity. Now they are front page news every day. Sure they are still hated and reviled, but there are a number of people that are drawn to that kind of infamy. There are people who want to be public enemy number one. They want to be a gangster, or a serial killer, or a drug kingpin because they want to be infamous.
There are a number of people that think that the Charlottesville tragedy killed this movement. They say the tiny turnout in DC is a sure sign that the movement has failed. But then Antifa attacked the police and forced the 5 or 6 white protestors to be removed under police protection. The public watched this. The white protestors braved unspeakable odds. They stood against thousands of violent Antifa people that wanted to kill them, and they did it peacefully. They did it respectfully. Young children saw that. Old people saw that. Families watched this underdog forcibly removed under police protection because the mob was so violent that they feared for their lives, and they drew their own conclusions.
