For 98 years the Penn State Outing Club has organized all kinds of student events that promote conservation and getting in touch with nature. They have done backpacking trips, kayaking, canoeing, camping, trail maintenance in state parks, among other activities.
Now PSU's offices of Student Affairs and Risk Management has determined that their activities are just to risky and has banned them from going outside anymore.
“The groups are being disbanded in their current high-risk model and are actually being re-organized to provide more oversight of activities by trained and professional staff,” PSU spokesperson, Lisa Powers, told Fox News.
Powers said “the behaviors of some students on unsupervised trips have become a concern” which has “included the misuse of alcohol in the context of already risky activities.”
PSU assessed 79 clubs which are on campus and determined that 20 of them contained elements of risk including the Boxing Club, The Archery Club, and The Rifle Club. Three clubs are being disbanded for meeting the threshold of being to high risk. These include the PSOC, The Grotto Caving Club, and The Nittany Divers SCUBA Club.
It would seem that students wanting to be responsible for nature and do their part for conservation would be a good thing. Instead Liberals want to make sure that students are never allowed to leave their safe spaces and venture out into the "dangerous" world outside. Perhaps Liberals will not be content until they have banned all things fun, and we are all to afraid to go outside without wearing our government issued bubble wrap suits. It is a sad day when getting in touch with nature is discouraged. Shame on you PSU.
