Julian Assange is an Australian computer programmer and the editor of Wikileaks, which he founded in 2006. He came under scrutiny in 2010 when he published documents and videos on Wikileaks provided to him by Chelsea Manning. Included in the leaks were videos from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. The United States launched a criminal investigation against Wikileaks and an international warrant was issued for his arrest by Sweden in November of 2010. In 2012 Equador granted him asylum and allowed him to take up residence inside of their embassy in London where he has resided ever since.
Now it seems that Mr. Assange has again caught the attention of the US government. Congress wants him to appear as part of an inquiry about Russian interference in the 2016 US election. It is unclear at this time how Mr. Assange will respond. It is doubtful that he will be willing to leave his residence in the embassy, which would lead to his immediate arrest. Perhaps Mr. Assange might be willing to do a video conference or congress might have to travel to London to question him if he is willing to speak to them at all.
