Media has for a long time portrayed men in a negative manner. Married couples in sitcoms are portrayed as a stupid, lazy dad who is lucky enough to be married to a superhuman woman that can do it all. Public announcements to end domestic violence always focus on the issue as if it only happens to women. Feminists are portrayed as heroes, and the men's rights movement if it gets mentioned at all is demonized and compared to white supremacy.
Men attempting to find help when they are abused more often than not are refused aid, or worse they become a victim of the very system that they go to for help. If a man calls the police when he is abused, he will likely be accused of being the abuser and get arrested. Programs within the courts designed to give legal protection will refuse to help a man, but will consider a man guilty until proven innocent when he is accused by a woman.
Furthermore when children are added to the equation they become a pawn to be used by abusers. Abusers will work to turn children against the victim parent. A long a torturous emotional abuse that can continue for years can happen.
Pointing out these facts does not take anything away from women who are real and valid victims of domestic violence, and of other emotional abuses which occur after divorces. Domestic violence is a problem which affects both sexes, adults, and children alike. It is the wish of this author that the portrayal of these matters and the help given reflect the reality of the situation and help everyone who needs help.
